Cigarettes, to some, are a way of releasing stress. To others, it is a nasty substance that will not only cause the smoker cancer, but to everyone around him or her. Cigarettes contain over four thousand chemicals, some of which or toxic and carcinogenic. Nicotine, a substance in a cigarette, is actually a drug. Nicotine (used as herbicide and insecticide) is what gets people addicted to smoking. Other harmful substances are lead, mercury, acetone (what is in nail polish remover), hydrogen cyanide (cyanide, when swallowed, is poisonous), tar, arsenic (lethal poison), methanol (used in rocket fuel), cyanhydric acid (was used in gas chambers), and many others.

It’s kind of disgusting to know that smokers are taking in all these different chemicals that harm them. Cigarettes should be banned, like drugs are. Cigarettes do nothing but harm the body. They have the same effects as drugs: it’s a stimulant, make you look bad, and addictive. Smokers are also doing harm to those around them, a.k.a secondhand smokers. It has been found that about 3000 nonsmokers die every year from lung cancer caused by secondhand smoke. It is very harmful to children. Secondhand smoke causes children to get health problems such as asthma, and middle ear and sinus infections.

Smoking does a lot more bad than it does good. It should be illegal.
